As we move into a new era of Cincinnati public transit it is important to gauge how our current system is working. How do you get to work or school everyday? (All responses are anonymous.)
My mode of transportation changes for various activities, months of the year, and the city I am living. During co-op I have lived in larger cities with comprehensive transportation infrastructure that is easy to navigate and use. At these times, I utilize the public transport in various ways. At school, I am close enough to walk efficiently, but will use my car for further distances.
I drive everywhere because I live off campus. I also work about 30 minutes away so it’s best to drive there too. When I can, I like to bike, but unfortunately it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. When I go on co-op, I use public transportation to get around the city to work and to meet friends. There was only one co-op where I had a car, but I was close enough to walk to work everyday and I took out the car on weekends when I went to explore the town and get into the city center. I am very much a car person and I love my car, but if there was an efficient public transportation system, I would definitely consider using it.
I usually ride my bike to & around school. I tend to drive to places too far to bike because either the goMetro bus doesn’t go there or its quicker to drive than trying to figure out the bus maps or schedule. I think improving the bus system user communication would increase ridership. Improving the online “Trip Planner” & showing exactly where it stops would be very helpful.
I agree with “LMS”. Around Cincinnati, I usually use my car to get around. Only when I’m on co-op in big cities with adequate public transportation like in New York and San Francisco have I utilized public transit as well as just walking around. I am a big supporter of the Subway system, I wish every city had one!
I wish Cincinnati had better public transportation options. I’m definitely not a big fan of the bus system here, I’ve never even used it, it’s just too confusing to bother figuring out, especially when Cincinnati is such an automobile-driven city.
If Cincinnati had a subway system, a streetcar system, and/or light rail that was easy to figure out I would definitely be utilizing it instead of a car. It would save me so much money in the long run!
