Future Visions: Price Hill

We focused on Lower Price hill as a west side neighborhood that represented an area without a well established identity. Here, a signature station and transit type could really help pull the community together. It could encourage residents to celebrate their collective strengths as a former industrial community with easy access to fantastic views. Lower Price Hill offers the enticing mix of large scale industrial buildings and residential that could form an “industry-chic” feel. The station and car both reflect this sleek industrial feel.

The actual transit would be a streetcar specifically formatted to split and ride an incline up to upper Price Hill. This incline hearkens back to the old incline in Price Hill, but now allows access for all residents to experience the great views regardless of class. The industrial glass canopy in the train and station allows for access to views while enjoying the transit experience. While an “industry-chic” feel may not be appropriate now, Cincinnati has the opportunity to develop a warehouse district, and lower Price Hill could be the right outlet with easy access to the West Side and downtown, and close proximity to the river. This concept represented the ability for transit to help forge a new neighborhood identity while better connecting it to its neighbors.
